Section 1: Rationale
Looking back on each of the 7 Units I’ve completed, I can definitely tell there’s been improvement. At first I was struggling with using effects and buses in Logic but I’ve since found that I’ve learnt a lot more about how Logic works by researching and putting my knowledge to use to create music as well as creating a presentation on delay. Another aspect I believe I’ve improved in is my confidence. Throughout the year, I’ve found that the more performances I’ve taken part in, the more my confidence and stage presence have grown. This is also due to encouragement from my teachers who have supported each of my performances.
Section 2: Project Proposal
For my Unit 8 Final Project, I have decided to work alongside the band I’ve formed with friends in college, Glass Star. Together, we plan to release a self-titled EP with approximately four original songs. These will all be created with Amber on guitar, Jack on drums, Ed on keyboard and I will be on vocals so everyone has their own individual roles to carry out. Week by week we will keep a sort of ‘diary entry’ on our blogs detailing what we’ve achieved and struggled with in our recording and studio time. This shall also include evidence and audio clips wherever possible. Alongside the recordings of these songs, we will also be individually mixing them and releasing them to streaming platforms such as sound cloud. To make this our best work possible, we’ll have to do some research on copyright laws, create or find a design for the album cover and ensure we all collectively put in effort. We have also discussed a physical release of our album on CD. For this aspect of the project we’ll need to buy plain cases and empty CDs. We then plan to burn the album into it and design a band leaflet to be stored inside.
Section 3: Evaluation
Despite keeping track of our progress weekly, this is an ongoing project, so our goals and expectations may change. To document this I’ll be providing updates on blogger about altering any aspects and progress made. By the end, I want to see evidence that I’ve put my learnt skills into action to optimise my work and that I’ve enjoyed creating my music.
Section 4: Project Action Plan and Timetable
The timetable created is intended to be easy to follow with room to change and delay things slightly. Despite having this big project plan, should anything change or we need time with anything else, I can easily adjust to smaller, more achievable goals. As you can see, we plan to get quite a bit done by easter as we're using that as a sort of 'checkpoint'. I am also aware that there's two different check-in's with my tutors which will be very informative on how I'm currently doing progress wise. This timetable is evidently just a general plan and doesn't include the personal research I also plan to do outside of college hours so there's that added task also. The great thing about having a clear layout like this is that everyone can clearly see what's expected of them as an individual and a group and when to get it done.
Section 5: Proposed research sources and bibliography
As stated in the guidelines, I will be using both primary and secondary research, mainly from online sources such as youtube and general relevant websites. However, should I discover a book or physical article with information which can relate to my project, I will commence research on that also. Here I'm going to list some examples of sites I'm definitely going to use.
