 Unit 8 - Week 4

On tuesday we began working on our fourth and final song to add to our college project EP. We wanted to create a song that had a slightly heavier sound than our other tracks yet stays true to the style we’ve created so far. Throughout the day, we worked on this song in a different rehearsal room to usual and whilst the band jammed and brainstormed, I began writing a lyric mindmap and some quick ideas. By thursday we were doing more rehearsal, just going over all our EP songs and ensuring we know them as well as possible so we’re familiar with all the structures. In this rehearsal session I also started learning some guitar. I haven’t really played guitar before but I wanted to take this time to start learning something new that’ll enhance my performance. I began learning some guitar parts to our Glass Star song Memory and One Day. I got Amber to teach me parts to both of the respective songs that could work as a ‘harmony’ to her guitar part. This is all in preparation for me to eventually become the rhythm guitarist to our band in live performances. Once friday came around, we were lucky to once again be able to spend our afternoon in the studio. For this session, we focused on recording Amber’s parts for I Get It, attempting to ‘fix’ the parts she wasn’t fully happy with. After setting the room and microphones up, I decided to take a short video of Amber playing her solo. So far this week, I’m happy with the progress we’ve made but I think we need to keep continuously recording as much of our songs as possible to ensure we have plenty of time leftover to mix. I particularly enjoyed this week as I felt I got to try a lot of new things which have been very fun to learn about and then put into practice. I got to set up the microphone’s in the recording room and adjust everything to change the sound that came through as well as playing an electric guitar for one of the first times ever. I obviously wasn’t great but this is something I want to work on so I eventually can become a good rhythm guitarist.
