Unit 1 - Summertime Blues Performance
In this blog post I will be discussing my second college performance and how I felt I did throughout the day. The song is Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran.
Evaluation
In this performance I felt I had vastly improved since the Hound Dog performance. I felt slightly more confident with my singing and decided to explore the lyrics by adding my own vocal twists. I think my band this time were all more in tune with each other and we got the work done in a quick and efficient manner which was excellent as we all made sure we carried out our own independent roles to the best of our ability whilst still relying on each other to an extent.
Alternatively, I felt like despite how well we worked, we lacked communication in our group. As we still didn’t know each other that well, I found it difficult at times to talk to the band as they were mostly quite quiet. I also noticed I hadn’t completely learnt the lines for this performance which I think ruined my stage presence a bit as my face is blocked and my eye level is down giving me the appearance of being quite closed off.
If I could do it again, I would try my best to learn all my words before so I could perform them with even more confidence and try to make them sound my own style. I would also try harder to communicate with the group throughout the day as I feel that could’ve helped all of us feel a little more relaxed. Ultimately, I enjoyed this performance and truly enjoyed seeing my improvement in such a short time period. I can also hope that I continue to gradually improve and constantly keep becoming a better performer.
