Unit 13 - Post Gig Evaluation
So it's now Thursday (the 22nd) and I've finished the gig I put on. The main goal for this part of my project was less about the performance itself and more about gaining experience and insight as a promoter to explore a different part of the music scene. As you can see from my other portfolio posts, I've spend a lot of my time preparing for this event and I used it as an opportunity to bring all my work together from communication and planning to selling the merchandise I created and performing the EP I've written for the project. I decided to only sell 5 t-shirts for the gig despite having made about ten, each for £5 as they're of the homemade quality, here is the merch stand I set up myself before the gig. I only ended up bring five t-shirts as I didn't even think I could sell that many but they surprisingly all sold out before my set even ended!
I also decided to sell all the stickers for free since I didn't want to charge inconvenient prices like 20p or make them too expensive so giving them out completely free felt like the best way to get my bands name out there. Overall, I managed to make £30 that night as one customer gave £10 instead of £5 which was extremely generous. When you think about how much it cost me per t-shirt, I'm glad I made a profit. I'm going to link below the recording my tutors made of the gig and an overall evaluation of how the performance itself went.
As you can see from the video, the performance was far from perfect. In the beginning I was really starting to feel my nerves getting to me since this was my very first gig with a new band and we didn't have much preparation. I tried my best to appear confident and go with the flow and despite a couple of hiccups from each of us, we managed to pull through. I think the biggest aspects we need to work on before our next gig is practice, guitar and bass tone and overall timing, making sure we listen to each other. Overall, I'm very proud of my band for getting this done despite their fears and I'm excited to see what we can learn and improve for the next gig.
