Diary over the weeks on progress with the song Memory.

In this blog post, I'm going to be keeping track of my progress on Units 5 and 6. The main aspects include recording, mixing and producing a song and a music video of it. I will be creating this song with my band Glass Star. We first started by deciding what song we want to record and I think we're going to go with one of our originals though we're not entirely sure which yet.

We did some rehearsals this week. We've decided on the first song we made together 'Memories'. We think it'll be a good one to record as we know it well and it's not too long. Our drummer has been off this week so we're currently rehearsing using a metronome to keep the beat. Alongside this, we've now had our first discussions on what to o about filming. We've decided to film on campus and just have fun with the video.

Our keyboard player Ed created a demo of the song at home. He's used Logic to virtually add all the instruments so we can start recording without the drums. We had our first session in the studio this week, we'll definitely need a couple more. I think we got quite a lot done today, we managed to record all of Amber's guitar including her solo. Additionally, it's been double-tracked as we've recorded it twice. Amber was great in the studio today although we did get stuck a lot working out the technology, she was efficiently and got her parts done quick. We also added a quick demo version of vocals in 5 minutes as I have quite a bad cold and couldn't record my parts today. But at least we have some basic vocals to help guide the band.

This week we welcomed Jack back and did some filming around Llwyn y Bryn. Luckily our bassist also came in so we've managed to get some footage with him. Later on in the week we also had our second recording session. Our bassist, Morgan, completed the bass line for the song rather quickly so it was nice to knock something off our list straight away. The drummer, Jack, was struggling for quite awhile to get the timing and couldn't play along. Unfortunately this session was a bit of a waste as we really didn't get much done. Hopefully it can all go much smoother next time. Outside of the studio Amber and I went to the stage to record some more shots for the guitar solo. I'm really happy with how these came out and even got more clips of me singing the lyrics for the video.

We finally got the drums done!! We managed to get the drums recorded quite quickly in the start of our session. Then we moved on to my vocals and got them done fairly quick too. We managed to double-track them and for the rest of the session cleaned some stuff up and did some further mixing. We also jumped into the studio later on when it was free for 10 minutes and trie recording some harmonies.

The final week is here and I'm rushing to get everything done. We ended up deciding to change our song name to 'Memory' as it sounds better. Throughout the whole week my group have been stressed trying to make sure everything's done and sounding good even when it was the last day, I hadn't completed editing my video. Thankfully, by the end of Friday it was all done and I finished up in Premiere.
